Council President Mary Sheffield and Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr.

In the August primary, Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield received 51 percent of the vote, compared to second-place finisher Rev. Solomon Kinloch, who had 17 percent.

The latest poll, if accurate, shows that Kinloch has done little to close that gap.

A Detroit News–WDIV poll released Wednesday shows Sheffield with a commanding 50-point lead over Kinloch among 500 likely city voters in the Nov. 4 election, the Detroit News reports.

The poll, conducted Oct. 16–18 by the Glengariff Group following the WXYZ debate on Oct. 15, shows Sheffield with about 65 percent support compared to Kinloch’s 14 percent. Twenty percent remain undecided and about 1 percent said they backed another candidate.
