DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Macon County has landed nearly $3 million in federal funding to meet the nearly $34 million price tag to replace Reas Bridge in Decatur.

Reas Bridge was built in 1957 and has been under weight restrictions for years. The bridge has also faced costly repairs, according to Republican County Board Chairman Kevin Greenfield.

“Anything other than a Volkswagen, you really were testing your luck going across it,” a smiling Greenfield told WAND News. “It was our worst bridge in Macon County. IDOT was close to shutting it down.”

Greenfield credits the City of Decatur for working as a team to assist the county in obtaining the money.
