A man jailed for manslaughter after a B.C. woman’s remains were found in a remote area outside Fort St. John has died in prison.

The Correctional Service of Canada said John Wendell Keyler, who was serving a nearly five-year sentence at Kent Institution, died in custody on Thursday. He was 40 years old.

Keyler was originally charged with murder in July 2020 after the remains of Sarah Foord were found during a missing-persons investigation. Foord had been reported missing by family two weeks before the discovery and police said foul play was suspected.

A B.C. Supreme Court judgment in January 2023 showed Keyler and Foord were in a relationship when Keyler stabbed Foord to death in the bathroom of a mobile home they shared. An autopsy showed that Foord had been stabbed about 50 times, w
