CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The government shutdown has many reaching out for help, including essential workers in our military.

One local organization is seeking to support soldiers, veterans, and military families.

Fort Care, a nonprofit organization, arranged a meal distribution on the base at Fort Campbell on Thursday.

“We want them to go home with some peace,” Fort Care founder Ron Fahy explained.

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.

Hours ahead of the event, families began lining up.

Fahy says they were able to give out meals to over 5,000 people, which is the most in their seven-year history.

“What a tremendous blessing, honor to be able to do what we know is the grace of god’s work to honor those soldiers and families,” Fahy said.
