PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Families who rely on food stamps or other food assistance from the government may have to find other ways to feed their families beginning next month as the government shutdown continues.

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) confirmed to Arizona’s Family that the agency can’t give nutrition assistance or SNAP benefits in November to families until it gets money from the feds, which it can’t release because of the shutdown.

State officials said that DES will continue to accept and process applications for any of the welfare programs. DES said it would provide more information as circumstances and the situation change.
