FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — Four people are safe after being rescued off Humphreys Peak in the San Francisco Peaks on Wednesday. Two were struck by lightning, and the other two got lost after being chased by a bear.

Thankfully, Coconino Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue crews said they were prepared despite challenging terrain and weather that included lightning, rain, and hail.

These were the conditions Sam Lehman, the assistant search and rescue coordinator, said his crews were up against rain clouds that brought lightning, rain and hail when they got the call that lightning struck two men .

“The peak of Humphreys, which is 12,633 feet, with weather moving in,” Lehman said.

He was in charge of deciding what equipment and resources were needed and requesting the right crew.
