Jefferson Davis, La. (KPLC) - Cameras are now in 13 Jeff Davis special education classrooms after a new state law took effect.
The Louisiana Legislature passed Act 479 this year, mandating cameras in classrooms where half of the students are on a special education plan. Those students also have to be in the classroom for at least half of the day. The law also requires specialized training and procedures for these classrooms.
The Jeff Davis School Board installed the new equipment earlier than the state deadline, and school officials say they’re a good addition to certain classes.
Jeremy Fuselier, Supervisor for the Department of Special Services for Jeff Davis Parish Schools, said the district is embracing the mandatory cameras.
