An I-90 overpass that was severely damaged by a driver carrying an oversized load will be demolished, the Washington State Department of Transportation said, closing westbound I-90 in Kittitas County through the weekend.
An emergency contractor was set to demolish the damaged Bullfrog Road overpass starting Thursday evening. One lane of eastbound I-90 will be closed through Saturday evening, and westbound I-90 is expected to reopen sometime early next week, according to the department. Traffic will detour at Exit 80 until the replacement is completed.
The overpass was struck from below Tuesday. Washington State Patrol cited the driver for not having the correct permit.
