The Assumption College Lions senior football team needed a win in more ways than one on Thursday night.

Facing Brantford Collegiate Institute in the final game before the Athletic Association of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk semifinals next week, ACS (3-2) defeated the Mustangs (2-3) 27-6 at Bisons Alumni North Park Sports Complex.

The first thing the victory does is allow the Lions to avoid playing undefeated St. John’s College (4-0) in the semifinals, instead setting up a date with Paris District High School (3-2).

The second thing it did was allow Assumption to do something it hasn’t done in a while.

“BCI beat us four times in a row before this win,” said ACS coach Jason Nagy.
