US authorities have arrested an Indian-origin man, Mehul Goswami, 39, of Latham, New York, on charges of grand larceny, after an investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office revealed he was allegedly holding two full-time jobs simultaneously.
Goswami, employed by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), was accused of working a second job in the nearby town of Malta while drawing a salary from the state.
According to investigators, Goswami’s alleged misconduct led to the theft of more than $50,000 (approximately Rs 44 lakh) in state funds. The incident has raised questions about monitoring and accountability among remote state employees in New York.
