IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Two football players from small towns in Iowa went from being teammates at Iowa Western Community College to opposing Big Ten rosters. As Iowa is set to host Minnesota in a battle for the Floyd of Rosedale, this will mark the final time these players go head to head.
They grew up in towns less than an hour away from one another, but Williamsburg native Kaden Wetjen and Frank Bierman of Tipton, didn’t meet until they played football together and were roommates at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs.
“It was completely random,” Bierman said. “The first day we met was on move-in day.”
They had fun together off the field.
“We had a little prank war going on for a while,” Wetjen explained.
Plus, they helped the Reivers reach the NJCAA national championship game.
