SYCAMORE, Ill. — Sycamore’s Pumpkin Festival is taking over downtown this weekend. The community celebration aims to showcase local non profits.
“We try to make sure everyone knows the festival is to support local non profits. Of course we want to support the City of Sycamore, but the non profits are the general focus, so every vendor here is a non profit organization,” said Trenton DeVito of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival Committee.
It all started more than 60 years ago when Sycamore resident Wally Thurow in 1956 started putting decorated pumpkins on his front lawn.
The community joined in and has since turned into an annual tradition.
The fall-themed event also shines a spotlight on local businesses.
