BOISE, Idaho — A 24-year-old woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for a violent home invasion that left a Boise woman with 20 stab wounds.

District Judge Richard Greenwood of Ada County sentenced Farida Joel Mathew to a fixed two-year term and an indeterminate eight-year term for the attack in September 2024, according to a news release. The judge also mandated that Mathew remain under retained jurisdiction and participate in the Idaho Department of Corrections' (IDOC) rider program . Additionally, a no-contact order was issued.

According to investigators, the incident happened on Sept. 18, when Mathew forced her way into the victim's North End home and stabbed her repeatedly in an unprovoked assault. Officials said the two women had previously met but did not have a
