Survivors of the deadly Hyderabad-Bengaluru bus fire described waking up to a scene of panic and flames spreading within seconds. Many were asleep when the fire broke out.
Harika, one of the passengers, said she woke up shocked as the blaze quickly engulfed the bus. She managed to escape through a damaged rear exit door, though she was injured while jumping out.
Another survivor, Surya, recalled that the fire started soon after a bike came under the bus. “Sparks started and suddenly everything was burning. Those who could jump, jumped,” he said.
With curtains covering most sleeper berths, passengers struggled to understand what was happening or how many people were still inside.
Several survivors escaped by breaking windows, but many others were trapped before they could react.
