A PIECE of Mudgee history is set to be revived after sitting dormant for almost two decades.

For 72 years, the Regent Theatre was buzzing with bright lights, live entertainment, and crowds of people attending the various movies being shown.

But for the past 18 years, the only movement in the building has been the flocks of pigeons settling in, and the bits of ceiling falling to the ground.

Now, following the sale of the historical building, this deterioration will turn into restoration, under the guidance of new owners Alan Kerr and Mark Hoddinott.

The new venture has been something the pair have wanted since 2010, but it never eventuated.

They came close to purchasing the theatre in 2021, but were the losing bidder at the auction.
