ONTARIO — Ontario’s football team has qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the first time in six years.
But Hacienda Heights Wilson showed the young Jaguars that they might not be quite ready to challenge for a league title.
Brian Silva took a fly sweep 73 yards on the third play from scrimmage for the first of his two touchdowns and visiting Wilson went on to clinch a playoff spot with a 21-6 victory Thursday night in a Montview League contest.
“This puts us in the playoffs, which is the goal coming out,” Wilson coach Charles Lewis said. “I feel good. It’s a solid win.”
The win moves Wilson (4-5 overall, 3-1 in league) into a tie for second place with Ontario (6-3, 3-1). Ontario plays at first place Nogales (6-3, 4-0) next week.
