The Northeast Wilderness Trust has acquired more than 2,000 acres of land along the Appalachian Trail north of Lebanon called the Spruce Ridge Wilderness Preserve.

Logging will not be allowed on this land in order to help restore old-growth forests along the Appalachian Trail and promote a healthier ecosystem — a protection that the federal government has been rolling back on public lands.

According to the Center for American Progress , recent federal actions are making it easier for private corporations to drill, mine and log in national forests and parks.

The Appalachian Trail is a unit of the National Park System that spans 14 states.

In New Hampshire, the Appalachian Trail passes through White Mountain National Forest, which is also federally owned and managed.
