Not that it’s front and centre, but if you listen closely you’ll hear some cello, harp and real-life old-school piano on Ouri’s stunning sophomore album Daisy Cutter. This is surprising because this Montreal performer makes way-out-there late-night deep-club electronic music. But on the other hand, it’s not surprising at all because Ouri (full name: Ourielle Auvé) grew up in Paris in a family from French Guiana studying cello, harp and piano.
Ouri was a serious music student and at 16 figured she needed to escape the constraints of classical music. That’s why she moved to Montreal, in search of a little more freedom, like so many others from France who end up in our city.
