More than 270,000 West Virginia residents could be affected by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit disruptions next month if the government shutdown continues.

On Oct. 10, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service informed all regional SNAP directors and state agency directors that, amid the shutdown, funding for food assistance would only be available through the month of October.
