MAINE, USA — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is leading his party's primary race by a wide margin, according to a new University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll released Thursday , as his campaign seeks to steady itself following recent controversy.
The survey found that 58 percent of likely Democratic primary voters support Platner, compared with 24 percent for Gov. Janet Mills. Fourteen percent said they were undecided. The poll, which sampled more than 500 people, carries a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.
The results mark a commanding lead for Platner, a first-time candidate and oyster farmer from Sullivan, whose campaign has drawn national attention since he entered the race to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
