Health authorities believe they have identified two homemade, unlabelled food items which may be linked to a cluster of rat poisoning cases in south-east Queensland.

Five people, including one child, all from the Logan area , attended separate hospitals across the state's south-east last week, with symptoms consistent with having ingested, brodifacoum, which is a common active ingredient in rat poison.

Queensland Health said on Friday night initial testing on a homemade capsicum and chilli paste, as well as a homemade marinated eggplant dish, had returned positive results for the toxin.

They said three of the five people had consumed the food items, which authorities said may have been purchased or gifted in the area.
