The government has released alarming data on the quality of medicines in the country. According to a report by the Ministry of Health, 112 drug samples failed quality tests conducted in September 2025, raising concerns about patient safety. These medicines, instead of curing patients, could potentially cause harm.
Of the total failed samples, 52 were tested by the Central Drugs Laboratory, while 60 were found to be Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) by state laboratories. Additionally, one fake drug sample was detected in Chhattisgarh. Officials said that the quality of medicines is checked every month by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which collects samples from across the country for testing.
