Quick action by first-arriving police officers is credited for helping rescue a person from the roof of a burning home Thursday evening.
The fire was reported in the 300 block of 16th Street NE around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The first-arriving police officers found a person trapped on a porch roof of the home. The officers were able to find a ladder nearby and get it in position to pull the resdient from the porch roof.
A second person was able to escape the burning home, police said. Both were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, police said.
Two cats were killed in the fire, however several more cats and two dogs were located and reunited with the owner after the fire.
