Janesville, Wis. (WMTV) -Janesville, Wis. (WMTV) -On this day October 24, 1933 Amelia Earhart visited Janesville to speak to the “Janesville Woman’s History Club.”
The groups was celebrating their 57th anniversary.
Earhart was first introduced to aviation while working at a Canadian Military Hospital in the 1910s.
In 1928, Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger. She also flew across the Atlantic as a solo pilot in 1932.
After this flight she became a media sensation and a symbol for women around the world.
During her visit to Rock County in 1933, she also stopped at UW-Whitewater to speak to students about aviation.
