Ever wondered what Ireland’s past presidents worked as before they took up residence in the Áras?

Douglas Hyde was a university professor who spoke six languages. A celebrated Irish language campaigner and founder of Conradh na Gaeilge, he was nominated by all parties as Ireland’s first president, serving from 1938 to 1945.
