Pirates, demons and severed heads were the weapons of choice in this 2007 duel as two neighbors competed to transform their homes into the scariest Halloween house.

Dave Michael versus Sean Chambers was a contest that everyone in the neighborhood won. “He saw me setting up last year, so he started trying to compete with me,” Michael said. “He copied some of my designs and kind of went all out.”

Michael’s house featured a family-friendly "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme, while Chambers brought terror with his Hell's Gate display and guillotine.

The rivalry, which started a year earlier, grew into a neighborhood highlight. “The only limit to their creativity is where to put all this stuff when it’s over,” Michael’s understanding wife said.
