A former Bengals quarterback is stepping away from the football field and into the political arena, announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama.

AJ McCarron, who played for the Bengals in 2014-17 and again in 2023, said with his football career behind him, he's raising his family in Alabama and moving from the sidelines and into the field of politics. Advertisement

He launched his campaign with a video posted to his YouTube page , "AJ for LG."

McCarron stated it's "time for political newcomers and outsider candidates" sharing that during his time with the Bengals, he endorsed Donald Trump in 2016, because he was an outsider candidate.
