The City of Prince George says it will be closing its aquatic centre for two years, starting Jan. 1 until sometime in early 2028.
It says the extended closure is necessary for a series of upgrades to the facility, which first opened in 1998.
That means all aquatics programs in the city will be directed to the downtown Canfor Leisure Pool, which is itself struggling with mechanical issues that have prompted the city to sue its designer .
It also is not equipped with the same competition and training facilities as the aquatic centre, which has a diving tower and dedicated space for racing that is used by local swim clubs.
