Police are investigating a fatal ATV collision on Newfoundland’s west coast that killed a 70-year-old pedestrian.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the crash happened around 7 p.m. NT on Tuesday, on the main road in Ship Cove, a small community west of Stephenville.

An ATV had struck a 70-year-old woman, who was taken to hospital by emergency medical crews where she later died.

The RCMP said the ATV driver, a youth who was not injured in the crash, stayed at the scene and has co-operated with investigators. The police also seized the ATV.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is involved and the police are asking for witnesses or anyone with footage of the collision to contact them.
