COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — With cooler temperatures now in the forecast, health officials say now is the perfect time to get a flu shot.

Pam Kirkland with the West Central Health District says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older to get vaccinated each year.

Kirkland says with winter approaching, more people will be spending time indoors, creating more opportunities for germs to spread.

“It’s a good thing to get a flu shot now because it takes about two weeks for your immunity to build up,” Kirkland said.

She added, “We’ve got the holidays coming up — Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah — and if you want to enjoy all that the season has to offer, you want to make sure you’re healthy.”
