A 29-year-old doctor at a hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district has allegedly died by suicide, with a note on her palm saying that she was raped multiple times by a police sub-inspector and sexually harassed and assaulted by another individual, police said Friday.
Satara SP Tushar Doshi said police have booked the sub-inspector, Gopal Badane, and the other man, one Prashant Bankar, on the charges of rape and abetment of suicide. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also spoke to Doshi amid outrage over the case.
Special IGP (Kolhapur range) Sunil Phulari said two teams are searching for the accused, and added that the sub-inspector has been suspended.
