U.S. men's national team defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is facing several months out after suffering a serious Achilles tendon injury, per Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers.
Carter-Vickers sustained the injury late in Celtic's 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday.
After the game, Rodgers told Sky Sports that the 27-year-old was looking at a long spell on the sideline.
"He looks like he has done his Achilles, which could be anywhere between three and five months," Rodgers said.
"So we just await confirmation of that. It’s not great news, but we will see where that one goes. Cameron has been a very important member of the squad, of course, and a great center half for the club."
The extent of the injury will be revealed in the coming days, but it looks to be a blow to the defender's chances of making a second straight World Cup roster.
Carter-Vickers has 19 caps for the USMNT, making one appearance in 2025. He was called into the team's October roster but was an unused sub in friendlies against Ecuador and Australia.
The defender has been a mainstay for Celtic since joining in 2021 from Tottenham. Celtic has won the Scottish Premiership in all four of his seasons with the club, and he has beeen named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year in three of those campaigns.
With Carter-Vickers out, an opportunity could arise at Celtic for fellow USMNT defender Auston Trusty. The defender has played sparingly this season but could be in line for more minutes with Carter-Vickers out.
Trusty's most recent USMNT cap came in November 2024.
