Millions of central government employees and pensioners are awaiting updates on the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC), approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2025. The government has not yet announced the members of the commission or its terms of reference (ToR).
The 8th Pay Commission is expected to review and revise salaries for nearly 50 lakh central employees and allowances for about 65 lakh pensioners. While no official timeline has been provided, earlier pay commissions generally took around two to three years from constitution to implementation.
