A recall petition for Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides, also MLA for Calgary-Bow, has been approved by Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, paving the way for his ousting following months of controversy between the province and its teachers’ union.
The petition was filed by a Calgarian geophysicist named Jennifer Yeremiy, who also unsuccessfully ran as a candidate for the Alberta Party.
Yeremiy is part of the Recall for Change movement in Calgary, which has sought to put two other UCP MLAs, including Minister of Indigenous Relations Rajan Sawhney, out of their jobs in the recent past.
