AKRON, Ohio — Jontae Watkins, the man who killed Ernestine Stallings in 2023 , has pleaded guilty, according to Akron police.
Police officials say Watkins pleaded guilty on Thursday to aggravated murder with a three-year firearm specification.
Watkins is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, Oct. 27.
“This case highlights the tireless work of our detectives and their commitment to seeking justice for victims and their families. We hope that this plea brings closure and a sense of peace to her family and friends," said Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy.

The shooting dates back to July 3, 2023, when Stallings was shot and killed by Watkins as she and her girlfriend were loading birthday balloons into their vehicle outside the Dollar Street on West Market Street.
