Detroit Police Department officials are defending their officers' actions this week while detaining a woman accused of refusing to follow directions during an investigation for open intoxication at a gas station.

At around 2:35 a.m. Monday, the officers responded to a disturbance in the 8000 block of Gratiot Avenue and found at least seven people with open liquor bottles and cups, the department said in a statement.

Jasmine Royster was a passenger sitting in one of the vehicles, according to the department. Officers approached and asked her to provide identification multiple times; she spoke to the officer briefly then began to blow the horn and disregarded the request, DPD said.

The officer asked the 29-year-old to exit multiple times but she refused, according to police.
