Freddie Freeman was born in California and played for El Modena High School before starting his storied MLB career with the Atlanta Braves and -- eventually -- Los Angeles Dodgers.
But if you're here, you might be wondering about something you might have heard as he plays the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 World Series: Is Freeman Canadian?
You may recall that he played for Canada in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, and he's spoken about the poignant reason behind that choice. Both of his parents were born in Canada, with his mother born in Toronto and dad in Windsor, as he wrote in 2017 (see below). He lost his mother to cancer when he was 10, and so he wanted to honor her by playing for Team Canada.
So the answer is that he's a dual citizen.
