Faced with a deadline to vacate space Grey County paramedics share in the Dundalk fire hall, Grey County council gave pre-budget approval to spend almost $2.5 million on a new ambulance base in Dundalk.

Approval was given to allow work to get started so that county paramedics can be out of the fire hall in 12 to 18 months. The cost of the station will be debentured over 25 years. Grey paramedics have shared space with the Dundalk Fire Department for 20 years.

Kevin McNab, the county director of paramedic services, said the fire department requires space occupied by paramedics in the fire hall for new equipment to meet growing demands due to extraordinary growth there.
