Winn-Dixie is calling it quits after decades in Louisiana. And in New Orleans, where neighborhood grocers and trendy supermarket additions have squeezed older chains to the side, the Florida-based chain will sell or close its 10 New Orleans metro stores by 2026.
The change reflects a broader shake-up of the city's grocery market.
Just last month, Robert Fresh Market bought Langenstein's , the city's oldest grocery store, while national chains like Trader Joe's and Aldi have expanded across the metro area, carving up their share of the market.
It's not clear yet what the plans are for the remaining local Winn-Dixie shops. Company officials said they plan to rebrand two Baton Rouge locations to Super 1 Food stores, like they did 2018, when eight stores throughout the state were purchas
