With daily reports of federal immigration enforcement in Chicago and the suburbs, some school districts have gone out of their way to support terrified families and students, from teachers walking students to school to holding multiple “Know Your Rights” sessions.

But students in the southwest suburbs say that’s not happening at Morton High School District 201. They say their fears are being downplayed, even though their community is particularly vulnerable. About 91% of the students in the district are Latino; 36% are learning English.
