HINSDALE COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - A father and son from Florida were rescued after becoming stuck on a mountain pass.

Hinsdale County Search and Rescue assisted neighboring San Juan and Ouray counties around 6:50 p.m. in saving motorists stranded west of the Engineer Pass summit. The family's vehicle was stuck in about 2 feet of snow around 4 p.m. when weather conditions worsened.

About 9:45 p.m., the rescue team contacted the family and safely got them down the mountain.

Engineer Pass connects Ouray and Lake City. It's a popular offroad trail with a 12,800-foot summit. It sees snow as early as the beginning of October.
