Just under two-and-a-half months after Bamfield Main Road closed due to the Mount Underwood wildfire, the road has now reopened, at the same time the remaining evacuation order has lifted.

The Mount Underwood wildfire sparked on Aug. 11, and it resulted in large evacuation orders and the full closure of Bamfield Main Road, which is a main connector to many communities on the west coast.

The provincial government took over a leading role in remediation work to reopen the road in August, and at the time noted the work needed was to remove dangerous trees to ensure they didn’t fall on the road.
