A pedestrian was lying injured on Richmond Highway (Route 1) after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Then she was hit a second time and killed by an officer who was arriving to try to help her, authorities say.
Trina Jones was the victim hit and killed on Sept. 23. She was 62.

"Please do not tell me I just ran her over," an officer can be heard saying in dashcam video released Thursday by the Fairfax County Police Department.
Jones was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Richmond Highway at Belford Lane, in the Mount Vernon area. Lying injured in the roadway, Jones was still conscious, Police Chief Kevin Davis said. Bystanders urged her to get out of the roadway.
