Harvard University on Friday asked students, staff, and faculty to shelter in place after a reported shooting on Sherman Street in Cambridge. The emergency alert which was later lifted, was issued via the university’s notification system, described the suspect as “an unidentified male on a bicycle [who] just shot at another person on Sherman Street. The suspect is on a bicycle heading toward Garden Street. Please avoid the area and shelter in place,” according to NBC Boston.

Search Underway for Suspect

Authorities from both Harvard and Cambridge police departments were actively searching for the suspect late Friday. Garden Street, which runs adjacent to Harvard Yard and the Cambridge Common, was identified as a potential route the individual may have taken toward Harvard Square. Resident
