TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office asked the state government on Monday to review a recent reduction to its budget.
The Taylor County Board of County Commissioners responded Friday, asking the state to uphold the approved budget.
In September, the commission voted 4-1 to reduce the Sheriff’s Office budget request by $606,044.
The Sheriff’s Office claimed it’s losing $1,006,044.
In its letter to Florida’s Administration Commission, the commission breaks down budget workshops held by the county commission to “address the projected loss of $3.3 million in tax revenue.” The letter said Constitutional Officers and County staff were asked to reduce their budgets in an effort to avoid imposing additional property taxes on Taylor County residents.
