Srinagar, Oct 24: After 14 years of delay, the Qamarwari-Noorbagh Bridge, also known as Noor Jahan Bridge, is set to open next week, promising much-needed relief to commuters in the city.
The project, approved in 2009 with an estimated budget of Rs 9.5 crore and taken up for construction in 2011, was initially scheduled for completion in 2014.
However, it was plagued by a series of delays, leaving the bridge incomplete for over a decade. Spanning the Jhelum River, the 127-meter-long bridge connects the densely populated areas of Noorbagh and Qamarwari, which have faced traffic bottlenecks due to the lack of a reliable crossing.
