The Kerala High Court on Friday, October 24, quashed the ownership certificates issued to Malayalam actor Mohanlal for possessing ivory. The court ruled that the government's orders legalising his possession were illegal and unenforceable in law.
A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court, comprising Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Jobin Sebastian, passed the judgment in PILs filed by James Mathew and Paulose challenging the certificates, according to Live Law.
The petitioners claimed that the certificates issued to Mohanlal to retrospectively legalise the illicit possession of ivory were the consequence of corruption and collusion. The Bench declared the 2016 government orders and ownership certificates for the ivory "void" and "illegal and unenforceable".
