The Battles of Lexington and Concord, April 19, 1775, the first major battle of the American Revolution.
The opposing forces (British Army and Patriot militias) fought day-long running battles in the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy ( Arlington today), and Cambridge. All were to the north of Boston across the Charles River, not occupied by the British.
