PORTLAND, Ore. — A court hearing Friday could end up marking a key turning point in the weekslong legal battle over whether the Trump administration can deploy National Guard troops to Portland — but it may take a couple of days to find out what comes next.
U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut announced following Friday's telephone hearing that she would not make an immediate decision from the bench and would instead aim to issue a decision by Monday.
At issue is a temporary restraining order that is currently blocking the administration from deploying the troops in response to ongoing protests outside the ICE facility in South Portland. Trump on Thursday again claimed Portland is "burning to the ground," repeating similar hyperbolic and inaccurate characterizations of the city
