In hip-hop , there’s a polarizing debate between rappers who do live performances over raw instrumentals and those who rap over tracks that include their prerecorded vocals.
The subtext to the argument is whether or not an artist has the talent to rock a whole live show without the support of those prerecorded bars.
Deeper than that is the understanding that “true lyricism” is always relevant. Trends come and go. Music, especially hip-hop, is ever changing. But the ability to move a crowd by clearly and cleverly delivering dope lyrics over a saucy beat? That’s eternal.
